PERINATAL & POSTPARTUM COUNSELING
You don’t have to navigate this season alone — we’re here to help you feel like yourself again.
Bloom Women’s wellness understands perinatal care
The Road to Parenthood Isn’t Always Easy.
The perinatal period — from pregnancy through the first year after birth — is one of the most transformative and challenging seasons of a woman’s life. You may experience anxiety, depression, fear, anger, loneliness, or feelings you can’t quite name. Whatever you’re carrying, it’s valid. And you deserve real support.
Specialized Care for Every Stage of parenthood
Whether you’re pregnant now, or 3 years postpartum, we are here for you.
Many of our counselors have personal experience with perinatal mental health challenges and hold specialized certifications through Postpartum Support International (PSI). They understand what this season actually feels like — not just clinically, but deeply and personally.
Whether you’re navigating prenatal anxiety, postpartum depression, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, OCD, or the identity shifts that come with becoming a parent, we’ll meet you where you are with compassion, expertise, and zero judgment.

Process postpartum depression and mood changes

What to Expect
Sessions typically last 45–55 minutes and are available both in person at our Urbandale clinic and via telehealth — so you can access support from home, even with a newborn in your arms.
Your first session is a chance to share your story at your own pace. Your counselor will listen without judgment, help you identify what you’re experiencing, and work with you to build a care plan that fits your life right now.
Healing from perinatal mental health challenges is absolutely possible. With the right support, you can feel like yourself again — and we’re honored to be part of that journey.
Have Questions?
We Have Answers!
If your question wasn’t answered here, or you’d like more information before booking an appointment please reach out via our contact form, or give us a call. We will make sure you have everything you need to make your decision.
What is the difference between perinatal and postpartum?
Perinatal refers to the entire period surrounding birth — including pregnancy. Postpartum refers specifically to the time after delivery. At Bloom, we provide support across both — from the moment you find out you’re pregnant through the first year and beyond.
How do I know if what I'm feeling is postpartum depression or just the baby blues?
The baby blues are very common and typically resolve within two weeks of birth. If feelings of sadness, anxiety, irritability, or overwhelm persist beyond that or are affecting your ability to function day to day, it may be postpartum depression — and it’s worth talking to someone. Our team can help you figure out what you’re experiencing.
Can I be seen during pregnancy, not just after?
Absolutely. Prenatal mental health support is just as important as postpartum. Many of our clients start counseling during pregnancy to build coping tools and a support system before the baby arrives.
What if I'm experiencing postpartum psychosis?
Postpartum psychosis is a serious condition that requires immediate support. If you or someone you love is experiencing disorganized thinking, hallucinations, severe mood swings, or paranoia, please seek emergency care right away. With proper treatment, a full recovery is possible.
Do you offer telehealth for postpartum clients?
Yes — many of our counselors offer telehealth sessions, which can be especially helpful in the early postpartum period when getting out of the house feels impossible. You can filter by session type when booking online.
Does Bloom accept insurance?
Yes — we accept Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, Midland’s Choice, Cigna, Health Partners, and Tricare. We will directly bill your insurance carrier and you’ll be responsible for any applicable copays or coinsurance. We also offer a sliding fee scale whenever possible, and private pay is always welcome. For questions about rates or coverage, visit our Payment Options page or reach out to our billing coordinator directly.
What if I don't have insurance or my insurance doesn't cover this?
We believe mental health care should be accessible to everyone. If you’re uninsured, underinsured, or your plan doesn’t cover a particular service, we have several options to support you. We offer a sliding fee scale whenever possible — just discuss this with your provider. You can also choose to pay privately, and we’re happy to work with you on that. Additionally, Bloom accepts CareCredit, a healthcare credit card that allows you to pay for out-of-pocket expenses over time rather than all at once. For a full breakdown of our service rates and payment options, visit our Payment Options page or email our billing coordinator Mitch at mitch@bloomwomenswellness.org.
