Fast-acting, evidence-based trauma therapy that helps you replace pain with peace — often in just a few sessions.

You Don’t Have to Carry Those Images Anymore.
Traumatic memories often live not just in our thoughts, but in the vivid, distressing images our minds replay over and over. Accelerated Resolution Therapy works directly with those images — helping your brain replace them with something that feels more peaceful, more manageable, and more true to who you are now. At Bloom, our ART-trained counselors guide this process with skill, sensitivity, and genuine care for your healing.
what art can do
Rapid Relief Without Reliving Every Detail
One of the things that makes ART unique is that you don’t have to talk through your trauma in detail for it to work. The process is guided by your counselor using voluntary eye movements — similar to EMDR — but with a specific focus on replacing distressing mental images with positive, self-directed ones. Many clients experience significant relief in just 1–5 sessions.
ART draws from a number of evidence-based approaches including CBT, EMDR, gestalt therapy, and brief psychodynamic therapy. It’s particularly effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, grief, and more — and it’s delivered at Bloom by counselors who bring both clinical expertise and a warm, collaborative approach to every session.
How ART Can Help You

Experience meaningful relief — often in just a few sessions
What to Expect
Sessions typically last 60–75 minutes and are available both in person at our Urbandale clinic and via telehealth. ART is one of the faster-acting trauma therapies available — many clients notice meaningful shifts within their very first session.
Your counselor will begin by learning about what brings you in and identifying the images or memories you’d like to work on. You won’t be asked to share more detail than you’re comfortable with — ART can work even when the content stays private. From there, your counselor will guide you through sets of voluntary eye movements while you hold the target image in mind.
As the session progresses, you’ll work with your counselor to replace distressing images with new, self-directed ones that feel more peaceful and empowering. Many clients leave their first ART session feeling noticeably lighter — and that feeling tends to last.

What is ART and how is it different from EMDR?
ART — Accelerated Resolution Therapy — is an evidence-based approach that uses voluntary eye movements to help the brain reprocess distressing memories and replace painful images with more positive ones. Like EMDR, it uses bilateral stimulation — but ART places a stronger emphasis on image rescripting, where you actively direct the replacement of distressing images. ART also tends to work faster, with many clients experiencing significant relief in 1–5 sessions.
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?
No — and this is one of the things that makes ART so powerful. You don’t need to verbalize the details of what happened for ART to work. Your counselor guides the process, but the content of your memories can remain private. Many clients find this aspect of ART deeply relieving.
How many ART sessions will I need?
ART is one of the fastest-acting trauma therapies available. Many people experience significant relief in just 1–5 sessions, though more complex trauma may benefit from additional sessions. Your counselor will work with you to determine the right approach for your specific situation.
What conditions does ART treat?
ART is effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, performance anxiety, obsessive thoughts, sleep disturbances, and more. It is used with children, adolescents, and adults, and draws from multiple evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
Is ART available via telehealth?
Yes — ART can be adapted effectively for telehealth sessions. Many of our counselors offer both in-person and telehealth appointments. You can filter by session type when booking online.
Does Bloom accept insurance for ART sessions?
Yes — we accept Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, Midland’s Choice, Cigna, Health Partners, and Tricare. We directly bill your insurance carrier and you’ll be responsible for any applicable copays or coinsurance. Visit our Payment Options page for more details.
What if I don't have insurance or my plan doesn't cover therapy?
We believe mental health care should be accessible to everyone. We offer a sliding fee scale whenever possible, private pay options, and accept CareCredit for out-of-pocket expenses. Reach out to our billing coordinator Mitch at mitch@bloomwomenswellness.org to discuss your options.
