Amy Tyson Headshot

Amy Tyson, LISW (She/Her/Hers)

Modalities: CBT, SFBT, Mindfulness

Perinatal: Advanced Training

I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) who has had a specialized interest
in the perinatal population from the beginning of my career, starting with my first job
working with pregnant and parenting adolescents after I received my Bachelor of Social
Work. I obtained my Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and
have spent over 15 years working as a social worker in mental health, early childhood
development, child welfare, and medical settings.
Since 2018, I’ve worked in a healthcare setting, ranging from crisis emergency care,
general pediatrics, and most recently, specifically focusing on mothers and babies on
inpatient maternity units. I have worked extensively with women experiencing
pregnancy complications, extended hospitalizations, preparing for a NICU stay, and
navigating grief immediately following a loss. I have a keen understanding of the
medical system and the impact of medical trauma and birth trauma on women and their
family systems. During this work, I completed specialized training in perinatal mood and
anxiety disorders, perinatal psychotherapy, and perinatal loss.

What My Support Looks Like

My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that you already possess the capacity for growth.  I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and empowered.  My style is influenced by cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused brief therapy, and mindfulness strategies.

My work is strengths based. Rather than focusing only on problems, we will identify your resilience, resources, and existing abilities while building the tools you need to move forward. I will meet you where you are, honor your lived experience, and support you in creating meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.  Through a relational approach, we will also consider how your experiences and relationships have shaped the way you connect with yourself and others. Our therapeutic relationship will be built on trust, authenticity, and mutual respect.

In My Free Time You Can Find Me…

My free time is filled with spending time with my spouse and two boys, staying up too late reading, and doing strength training and yoga.  I am a lover of houseplants, chai lattes, and dreaming up trips to national parks.
