Modalities: Person-Centered Therapy – Supervised by Taya Thostenson and Madison Sweet
Perinatal: Growing Interest
Amber Young is a compassionate, warm, and down-to-earth therapist who believes everyone deserves a space where they can feel truly heard, understood, and accepted. Before stepping into the counseling world, Amber spent many years working in education and teaching, giving her a unique understanding of children, families, relationships, and the many different ways people learn, communicate, and experience the world.
Amber comes Bloom with more than 20 years of combined experience in education and human services. She brings a unique blend of professional experience, empathy, curiosity, humor, and genuine care into her work with clients.
Her approach to therapy is person-centered and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Amber doesn’t believe therapy is about sitting across from someone who has all the answers. Instead, she views counseling as a relationship—one where someone gets to walk alongside you as you better understand yourself, recognize patterns, discover your strengths, and build tools that genuinely fit your life.
Amber earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand View University and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Iowa State University. Her clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in outpatient settings, giving her an appreciation for the different challenges, transitions, and experiences that occur across the lifespan.

What My Support Looks Like
Her approach to therapy is person-centered and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Amber doesn’t believe therapy is about sitting across from someone who has all the answers. Instead, she views counseling as a relationship—one where someone gets to walk alongside you as you better understand yourself, recognize patterns, discover your strengths, and build tools that genuinely fit your life.
Amber has a special interest in working with women navigating neurodivergence, grief and loss, anxiety, identity, life transitions, and the many seasons of change that can leave us wondering where we fit or how to move forward. She is especially passionate about supporting women who are exploring ADHD, autism, or other aspects of neurodivergence—particularly those beginning to understand themselves through this lens later in life. Her goal is to help women replace years of questioning or criticizing themselves with greater understanding, self-compassion, and confidence in who they are.
Amber also has a special interest in faith-based counseling and welcomes clients who would like their faith, spirituality, or relationship with God to be incorporated into their therapeutic work. She recognizes that faith is deeply personal and meets each client exactly where they are, allowing them to decide what role faith plays in their counseling experience.
Grief and loss are also especially meaningful areas of Amber’s work. She understands that grief isn’t limited to losing someone we love. We can grieve relationships, family dynamics, identities, motherhood experiences, careers, expectations, major life transitions, and even the version of life we thought we were going to have. Amber creates space for clients to process these experiences without feeling pressured to “move on” or find meaning before they’re ready.
Amber is also continuing to grow her work with women and families by working toward specialized training in perinatal mental health. She is passionate about deepening her knowledge of the unique emotional and mental health needs that can arise throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood.
In My Free Time You Can Find Me…
Outside of the therapy room, Amber is also a single mama to the sweetest boy, a role that has shaped so much of who she is and the perspective she brings to her work. She understands that life can hold joy, grief, change, responsibility, uncertainty, and growth all at the same time and believes there is incredible value in having a space where you don’t have to carry all of those things alone.
