Psychological Testing
Seeking Answers
Psychological testing, or “psych testing,” is a powerful tool used to help better understand how your brain works. Whether you’ve been wondering about possible ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum traits, mood disorders, or simply want clarity on thoughts and feelings you experience, psych testing can offer insight, answers, and a roadmap forward. Finding the right diagnosis can lead to better management and treatment.
The Process
The following is what you can expect from the psych testing process at Bloom, which takes 4-8 weeks from your initial intake session to your final feedback session:
Step 1: Intake Session
This will be your first sit-down session with our psychologist, Dr. Sarah Kendrick, and it can be virtual or in-person. During the 45-60-minute session, you’ll discuss your current challenges as well as your history and what you hope to learn from testing. It’s a judgment-free, collaborative conversation designed to get to know you. Based on this session, Dr. Sarah will decide what specific tests are most appropriate.
Step 2: Testing Appointment(s)
You’ll complete a series of standardized assessments—some on paper and some digital, depending on your needs. Most clients complete 2-3 sessions, lasting 2-3 hours each. These may cover attention span, memory, mood, social functioning, and/or other cognitive and emotional areas. Think of it as a day of putting together the puzzle of you. For younger clients, parents or caregivers may also complete forms to provide additional insight. This step could range from one to three sessions, depending on your individual needs.
Step 3: Scoring & Interpretation
Once the assessment has been made, our psychologist thoughtfully scores and interprets the results. This part takes time because it requires the expertise needed to study patterns and overlapping themes, as well as comparing your data to normative data while keeping your personal story in mind.
Step 4: The Feedback Session
In the final step of the process, everything comes together. You’ll meet with our psychologist again to go over your results in detail. This part of the process often takes 2-4 meetings. We want you to feel empowered to ask any questions you may have so that you walk away with a clear understanding of what the findings mean. You will also receive a written report that includes diagnostic impressions (if relevant), recommendations, and a personalized plan for next steps.

The Benefits of Psych Testing
Finding clarity and putting a name on what we’ve been navigating can be so validating. Psych testing can lead to tailored treatment plans, learning what accommodations you may need, and/or a deeper self-awareness. Information is power, and when used well, it can be a tool for healing.
What Does it Cost?
The cost of psych assessment at Bloom can vary depending on the scope of services and your insurance coverage. We’ll walk through your options clearly and transparently, doing our best to provide an accurate estimate up front. Here are some things to consider:
Insurance
We are in-network with many plans, including Wellmark/Blue Cross Blue Shield, Midland’s Choise, and Health Partners. However, insurance coverage for psych assessment can be unpredictable and often requires pre-authorization. In some cases, services may be applied to your deductible or partially denied, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your benefits. Our team can also help with this process as best we can.
Private Pay
If you choose not to use insurance or if services aren’t covered, we will discuss all costs before getting started and we offer installment options to support accessibility.
At this time, we are not able to offer sliding-scale fees for assessment services.
