ADHD Testing

Understanding ADHD

Adults living with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are often unaware of it. Symptoms range from being unable to stay on-task and being disorganized to dealing with impulse control and feeling easily overwhelmed by daily tasks. They can range from mild to severe, may change over time, and could negatively impact your life. Finding the right diagnosis can lead to better management and treatment.

ADHD Testing with QbCheck

QbCheck is an FDA-cleared computer-based test that helps measure three core symptoms of ADHD: hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity. The test is not based on language, math, or reading skills. Instead, you will see several symbols on the screen and be asked to press a responder button whenever a specific symbol appears. It takes approximately 10-20 minutes. Once completed, results are analyzed and compared to a group of peers who do not live with ADHD. It’s a helpful part of the ADHD pathway that can be used along with other assessments, such as talk therapy, to assist in finding an accurate diagnosis.

The Process

Step 1: Intake Session

The first step is to schedule a 60-minute intake session with Dr. Tyler VanMilligen or Stephanie Gorsuch, the team members at Bloom working in ADHD assessment. During this session, you will discuss concerns and symptoms experienced. This session is billable to insurance.

Step 2: QbCheck Scheduled

If you and your clinician agree that further testing could help provide a diagnosis, a test will be scheduled. There is a $350 out-of-pocket charge for QbCheck, with a $100 deposit.

Step 3: QbCheck Test

You will complete the test in our office. On the test day, we’ll welcome you to our office and make you feel as comfortable as possible. This is not meant to be a scary test and there’s no “wrong” answer.

Step 4: Review Test Results

You and your clinician will review the results and work out the treatment moving forward. This session will be 40-60 minutes and is billable to insurance.

Evaluating Progress

If you’d like to learn how your treatment plan is helping you progress, you’re able to schedule a follow-up QbCheck test 6-8 weeks later.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does QbCheck cost?

The QbCheck test is $350 and there is a $100 deposit. It is not billable to insurance. This does not include the intake or review appointments, which can be billed to insurance.

How should I prepare for the test?

Because a camera will be tracking your movements, please do not wear any reflective or sparkly clothing that could affect the test equipment.

What if I fail the test?

This isn’t a test you pass or fail. QbCheck is simply tracking how you respond, not how well you respond.

Does insurance cover testing?

Insurance does not cover QbCheck. The intake and review appointments may be billed to insurance. Please contact your insurance provider with any questions about your appointments.

The following are the CPT Codes we use for ADHD testing:

  • Administering ADHD Testing: 96136
  • Reviewing/Evaluating Results Session: 96132

Does the computer camera film me?

You will not be filmed. There is a camera in use during the test but that camera is only there to capture how much the marker has moved during the test.
